Mt. Elgon Families Seeking Justice
Eight residents of Kenya’s Mt. Elgon region, whose family members were forcibly disappeared during an internal armed conflict nearly four years ago, were finally able to file complaints with the Kenyan police on November 3, 2011, with the assistance of Human Rights Watch and Western Kenya Human Rights, a nongovernmental organization, Human Rights Watch said today. [Lire] Amnesty International - 12 juin 2009 Recall Parliament to Create Tribunal President Mwai Kibaki should recall Parliament early - immediately after New Year - to give it enough time to set up a special tribunal to prosecute perpetrators of election violence, Human Rights Watch said in a letter released today. To satisfy the recommendations of the Waki Commission, which investigated the devastating violence after elections a year ago, and to ensure impartial and independent prosecutions consistent with international standards, the constitution should be amended and a sound framework for the special tribunal enacted by January 30, 2009. [Lire] Human Rights Watch - 23 December 2008 Preliminary Response To The Mediation Process In Kenya The Kenyans for Peace with Truth and Justice (KPTJ) coalition and the National Civil Society congress (NCSC) wish to reiterate their unequivocal support for the Kofi Annan-led AU and internationally backed mediation process in Kenya. Kenyans are desperate to see an end to the nightmare that the current crisis represents: this process represents an important, and perhaps the only remaining, opportunity to resolve the Kenya crisis. KPTJ and NCSC also wish to restate that real, lasting peace will only be achieved through both truth and justice with regard to the Kenya Presidential Election of 2007, and the violence that followed it. [Lire] 7 February 2008 FIDH-KHRC Confirm Electoral Irregularities Today, the Kenyans for Peace, Truth and Justice Initiative, a coalition of Kenyan independent NGOs amongst which FIDH member organization, the Kenya Human Rights Commission is co-convener, has issued a report confirming the electoral irregularities at the occasion of the presidential ballot of December 27, 2007. [Lire] FIDH - Kenya human Rights Commission - 18 January 2008 Count Down To Deception - 30 Hours That Destroyed Kenya Kenya is today on the brink of disintegration. At least 500 people have been killed, 6,100 have fled into exile in Uganda and another 250,000 plus are living as internally displaced persons in their own country. This is not the end of this sad chapter in our country’s history. It appears that Kenya is poised for more confrontation that could result in heavy casualties, loss of property and a general atmosphere of fear. The country is faced with the possible collapse of its economic, social and political systems. Other states that depend on Kenya’s stability are also seriously affected. [Lire] 18 January 2008
- Source : IFRA Nairobi
Kenyans must seize democracy for themselves
- 28 February 2008 - Mukoma Wa Ngugi and Firoze Manji - It has taken over 1,500 Kenyan lives, hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people, a destroyed economy, and intensified mistrust between ethnicities that will last generations for both Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga to realize what everyone knew from the beginning: “Neither side can realistically govern the country without the other. There must be real power-sharing to move the country forward and begin the healing and reconciliation process”. - Source : Pambazuka News
Kenya in Crisis
- 21 February 2008 - Since the announcement of the contested presidential election results on 30 December 2007 giving a second term to Mwai Kibaki, Kenya has been in its worst political crisis since independence. Over 1,000 people have died and 300,000 have been displaced in violence with a serious ethnic character. - Source : International Crisis Group
The US and Kenya: Tragic setback for democracy in Africa
- 27 January 2008 - Keith Jennings - In the immediate aftermath of the recent elections in Kenya, the Bush Administration wasted no time in sending its glowing congratulations to incumbent President Mwai Kibaki and the Kenyan Election Commission. But despite the subsequent attempt to ignore the congratulatory message, and adamant claim of a global commitment to democracy, the Bush Administration’s official stamp of approval for Kibaki and the elections reflected a de facto endorsement of a naked power grab and contempt for the democratic process. - Source : Pambazuka News
The Kenya case and media bias
- 22 January 2008 - Antony Otieno Ong’ayo
- While the whole world is aware of the crisis is in Kenya, thanks to the international and local media, most of their reporting is accurate, however, there is need for an honest analysis of the situation in Kenya - Source : Pambazuka News

The Kenyan post-election crisis - A digital essay (Part One)
- 15 January 2008 - Onyango Oloo - From the look of things, it would appear that we are still a long way from resolving the serious post-election crisis that is gripping and almost crippling Kenya. - Source : Pambazuka News
- Source : CADTM
